About SL®-Art and SL®-Photography

To me, there’s a difference between SL®-Art and SL®-Photography. Snapshots from SL® are not really art in my personal opinion.

Please don’t get me wrong, I know that there are many exquisite pieces of SL®-Photography, that are perfectly executed and must have taken hours, or days, to create, and often have a very artistic feel to them.
But I still classify them as “photographs”.

Personal Works

There’s 2 main interests that pretty much dominate my SL®-Photography:

  • Sceneries and Journalist Photography (these are landscapes or urban scenes, but also occasions and events I’ve attended… or coincidental being lucky and pressing the button… think of it as me being a tourist on the grid and just snapping around, then try to bring the best out of those pictures)
  • Males in Photography (pictures of men, dressed, naked, alone, together, being sensual, etc…)

So far, I’ve had the pleasure to show at 2 small galleries: Taoma Beach and Kirkness Art Centre.

I’ve also contributed 2 pictures for the Relay for Life exhibition held at The Cannery.

For as long as I can manage, every piece of SL® Photography I ever made can be seen on Flickr, the more recent ones are also on KoinUp.

Sales

Since I like to please all and not tread on peoples toes, I’ve been thinking on how to properly display and sell the works I’ve created. Keeping the debate in mind that’s been going on amongst several SL®-Photographers since December 2008, I’ve come up with, to my personal opinion, reasonably fair way of “doing business in the SL®-Photography market”.

  • If I select a picture that I want to display and sell, I will drop a copy of that work on the initial creator(s) of the item(s) that are shown on the picture, and ask him/her if he/she allows me to sell it for a price between 200L$ and 2000L$ (depending on what is displayed, and the size, those prices seem reasonable to me).
  • I will ask if they prefer me to sell a limited number of 10 copies or a single unique copy.
Note: prices will vary according to their choice.
  • I will of course credit them by placing a notecard + dispenser script inside the work.
  • I will also offer them a cut of 20% of the selling price, unless they state that I can give their cut to a charity of either their, or my own choice, in which case I will increase the cut to 30%.
  • All frames will come with resize scripts.

Custom Portfolio, Profile and Advertising photography
I’ve done them mostly for women so far, and they always were happy with what I offered them.
I’m more a fan of “less is more”, so I try to work with subtle backdrops and brushes. In some cases, bold backdrops and brushes do more bad then good to a picture.
As for the shoots, I need to plan those carefully since I have a pretty lame, but time consuming RL job. The “viewing” usually happens within 7 days after the shoot.
Prices of course are always negotiable.

Please note: I will take multiple pictures, work on them and upload them. They will be on display for a private “viewing”, but you only pay for those you really like, even if that means you will only choose to take 1 out of (for example) 7 offered works.
