Since I liked last years Hair Fair, I really was looking forward to the 2009 edition. The fundraiser event for Locks of Love once again spread out over 4 sims (tho now on a different location since Rezzable cut down on a couple of it’s sims), and for the first couple days was constantly packed 24/7.
I only managed to get into the sims on a very early Sunday morning, and decided to try my best to get it all done in one take.
I spent roughly 7,5 hours altogether to visit the entire fair (preparing food and pitstops not included), with all my preference settings set to minimum (even tho I know better, but I’m on WiFi, and with WiFi it’s better to “play safe”, right?).
Alas, not too many hair designers offered male hair, but most ones that did offer male hair had really interesting designs, which might explain why in the end I spent roughly 7000 L$ (ZOMG
).
That’s not too hard if you buy multiple color packs. Also most of the hair I was interested in were the “less mainstream” designs, more edgy or more fantasy then the average styles, which generally are a tad more costly (les excuses sont faites pour s’en servir
).
Still, the amount of hairs I liked, and purchased, can be counted on 2 hands. What really made my experience at the Hair Fair pleasant however were the builds.
The BUILDS!!! Man did I love those
The theme was “Candy Land“, and that it sure was!
Pies, cupcakes, lollipops, candy canes, licorice, cherries, strawberries, candy drops, pancakes, ice cream, gingerbread, whipped cream, gummy bears, jelly, overfilled oozing honeypots and quite a bit more sweet stuff was what made up all the builds!
If I can be brutally honest: I had more fun checking out those builds then I had checking out the hair.
Below is a selection of my favourite builds. I figured this post would become too long if I also entered the hairs I came home with, so forget about those, here come the builds!
Personal Top 10 of Hair Fair 2009 Builds
#1: Hair Solutions
A ”Pie to die for”
This one was the most deliciously looking in my opinion. I doubt I’m the only one, cuz there appears to already have been taken a slice or 2 of it.
If it were a RL pie, I’ld keep asking for extras till there wouldn’t be a crumb left of it.
#2: The Stringer Mausoleum
It’s “Spoiled Gingerbread”!
Brilliant twist to the theme and well executed! The gingerbread has gone mouldy and mushrooms have started to sprout. The sugar shape man is sitting all alone on the top mushroom, poor him…
#3: Mirada
The cutest executed “Gingerbread Castle”.
Cornered by soft-serve ice cream towers and a chocolate-vanilla muffin as a centre dome, this is a gingerbread house fit for a sugarplum fairy.
#4: Argrace
Pretty much the most exquisitely designed ”Pie Palace”.
The roof is sprinkled with chocolate chips topped off with blueberries, mandarin orange slices, cherries and plenty of chocolate whipped cream.
#5: Here comes Trouble
I’ld call this a “Getaway Cottage Pie”.
I know what a RL cottage pie looks like, don’t get me wrong, but if you’ld imagine this build with a door and some extra windows, it would be an ideal getaway cottage for any sugar treat fanatic (like myself).
#6: Tekeli-li
The “Dark Chapel Pie”
A pie with a subtle Goth-like touch. I really liked those chapel-style “windows”.
If you’ld imagine this with an apsis and a small bell tower at the back it would be the perfect wedding chapel for any “Child of the Night” into sugar-sweet stuff.
#7: Dernier Cri
“Bijoux Pie”
I know what you’re thinking, I focus on the pies a lot, true, but I’m not ashamed to admit I love pies ![]()
This one was sweet and cute, with soft colors and a smaller appearance then most other “pie builds”, it looked to me like the kind of pie you would buy for an intimate afternoon coffee with your sweetheart on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
#8: Exile
“Licorice Treats!”
This one stood out a lot thanks to the ultimate bold color combination of red, black and white (and vibrant pink).
#9: (fashionably dead)
A gingerbread clock tower.
Compact but still very well thought out and with a good proportional amount of decorations.
With it’s thin design this is the only build that could be described as a classic “home baked” type gingerbread house on the Fair grounds, most others could be classified as a “patisserie” type gingerbread houses.
#10: MAD Designs
“Picnic for ants!”
A slice of pie may seem an ideal dessert, or even afternoon snack, for any picnic, but so often you encounter unwelcome guests who crash your party. I thought the ants were a nice touch.
Positioned right next to Hair Solutions, and sharing a very similar milk and chocolate appearance, these 2 looked (with some imaginative thinking) as if they once made up a whole pie.
