ArmorGames: The Arrow of Time

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”

We all know it, so a site I love to go to for some “light entertainment”, is ArmorGames.com. I’m not a big fan of all their games, but from time to time I find one that’s either fun, good braintrain or simply a more fun way of nerve-wrecking myself :p
Pretty much all games are Flash Player games, so make sure you’re up to date with that!
Some games are operated by the arrow keys, some by your mouse, but here and there there’s also WASD games, which are a pain for European keyboards! Specific platform games with multiple levels sometimes also track your progress, unless you clean out your cookies.

Today, I’m gonna suggest The Arrow of Time:

The game starts with a background story, and takes place over 5 levels, each having their own era in time (you start in the Medieval times, and eventually will reach a Futurisic fantasy).

In short this game is pretty much is a defence shooter, with several battle waves in each level and where you have to beat a “Master” at the end of the level.
So now I’m asking myself why on Earth I’m blogging about this, cuz this sort of game isn’t really my sort of thing…

Perhaps it’s the background story, or the fact you’re using nothing more then a bow & arrow set to defend yourself, or the ability to combine 2 types of “Arrow Types” into 1 shot, the fact that you need to upgrade your defences or collection of “Arrow Types” by earning points, play in a 360° 2D field… or maybe it’s the simple but neatly drawn 2D graphics.
I don’t know what it is, but I like it.

A quick info list:

  • You’re the last of your kind to protect a flying castle (which explains the full 360° playing field)
  • All you have as a weapon is a bow that can combine 2 “Arrow Types” in a single shot
  • Your enemies have weak points
  • The more intensely you destroy an aircraft of your enemy, the more points you’ll get
  • There are a couple of defensive tools you can purchase, but you can use each of them only once in each battle wave (but you don’t loose them, they will be available again in the next battle wave) and you can’t use 2 defensive tools at the same time
  • You can purchase 3 shortcut keys and assign them with your favourite preselected “Arrow Type” combinations (easy to switch between them by just pressing their number on the keyboard)
  • At the end of each level, there’s a “Master” you need to beat, bare in mind his aircraft can show immunity to certain “Arrow Types”, so it’s important to search the correct arrow combination to take down the aircraft of the “Master” (focus on which arrow make the HP bar at the bottom bleed out, and watch the HP bar at the top too, cuz that’s yours)

Anyway, I’m sure the tutorial will do a much better job at explaining everything then I just did :D

Oh, fun anecdote: just like with Cosmico, the end credits shows some sort of ending to the background story: I thought what Peep quickly did to Toot was a sweet gesture… after all, they really aren’t very different from each other ;)
